NOLLYWOOD TAKES TORONTO: TIFF 2016

Blog Headerh5

What an exciting week in Toronto with celebrity moments at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) which commenced on September 8th, 2016. Apparently, all roads led to Toronto, as stars and celebrities all over the world made their way over here for this special event. The social media did a fantastic job of keeping the public informed of the numerous daily events and exciting activities at the TIFF. From red carpet events to movie premiers to other glamorous moments, we captured them all. It was even more exciting to know that Nigeria’s film industry aka NOLLYWOOD was in the spotlight at the TIFF. YEAH!! Nollywood stars such as Richard Mofe Damijo, Ramsey Noah, Uche Jombo and other celebrities flew into Toronto for this special week event. It is worthy of note that earlier, in April of this year, Tiff announced Lagos, Nigeria as the focus of the industry’s City to City program. Big congratulations to Nollywood for this recognition. I must say that this is a great achievement for the Nollywood industry as a whole, and this recognition will certainly help to build and increase its global audience, and propel the industry to the next level.

While all these glamorous events were taking place, Nollywood celebrities took some time to meet with their fans. A Nollywood conference was also held, and hosted by Vivian Williams — producer and actress in the movie, UNVEIL — to discuss the global opportunities for the film industry in Canada. Some of the Nollywood celebrities present at this conference were Fred Mata and Uche Jombo. It was an interesting evening with a great and positive atmosphere. The most important thing I took away from this gathering is that despite the various challenges faced by this industry, Nollywood is excited and optimistic about the new opportunities that will arise from TIFF’s recognition, and it is resolute in forging ahead. Kudos to them!

I chose this simple midi dress designed by one of my fashion designers. This silhouette is made from bridal satin fabric. It felt cool and soothing on my skin, and was just perfect for the evening. I paired it up with a pair of pink platform heels for comfort knowing that I would be standing most of the time during the conference meeting.  When it comes to shoes, platform heels are my best friend, LOL.

How was your week? I want to hear from you. Hope it was exciting and not as crazy as mine. Thank you for the amazing and supportive comments on my previous post. One of you suggested a blog post in my scrub. I will definitely keep that in mind. Thanks again, and have a great week.
